Now running Penrite Oils in the rally car. Synthetic for transmission and engine. Mineral for diff (couldn't get the right viscosity in synthetic, plus the bugger is 30yrs old, I doubt it was designed with syn in mind).
Anyway the Penrite fully synthetic (not there top of the line stuff but still fully syn) seems to be the go for price, its still an SM grade oil 5W-50 so pretty good really.

I'm was using Castrol Syntec, heard through people that Mobil 1 was better, switched up to that and later started running Mobil 1 0w40. My 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee was burning oil before but has stopped since switching to synthetics. It does look like that Mobil drops out cleaner than the Castrol but that could be a number of different reasons. I was thinking about Amsoil but from what I read in the Car Bible that it cant be topped up with other synthetic brands (i.e. Mobil) or did i just read that wrong?

You can mix any oil with any oil, but obviously each manufacturer will say to only top up with their oil. Not sure just how bad it actually is though.

You can mix any oil with any oil,
as long as it is synthetic
