I've seen an infomercial on TV about the tornado. I couldn't figure out how it worked because they never explained. All they mentioned was like the 100 patents on it and how it was so unique.

Might be a little off topic , but Top Gear did some test on the first episode of last season. First was to let some supercars race against eachother and then check the fuel economy. The worst had 1.5mpg and the best had 5mpg. Then they tested a Toyota Prius against a BMW M5. The Prius was racing around the track , and the BMW had to keep up. After the test , the BMW had better fuel milage.
As a side note. A while ago , it was on the news that a lot of Dutch people broke down in Belgium on holiday. Apparently , a very common way to drive in the Netherlands is to shift gear at very low rmp. At 2000rpm or even less. Its suppost to be more fuell efficient. It might work well for an Opel Corsa , but once they are towing a trailer (they're Dutch , remember) , the oil pump and water pump aren't driven fast enough , and the car breaks down.

My wife's relatives in Finland are in the habit of getting up to speed, (at least in the less populated areas...) shifting to neutral, shutting OFF the motor and coasting to save fuel. Given there are few downhills in Finland, I'm not sure where the advantage lies....lol dw

I think it's dangerous. The brakes may not work when you need them to. Experts and gurus, please correct me if I am wrong.

only if they are power assisted brakes, which then would become very hard.

This really depends on your car, when coasting in neutral or with the cluch down your car uses fuel to keep the engine ticking over, most modern day manual cars when left in gear and left to coast use no fuel at all, you would need to check with you manufacturer, I know my 2006 Golf does it.
